Tom, glad to hear that John Raymond finally got his store, though I'm suprised to hear it's on our side of the hill.

BTW we happened to have dinner in your town last night at Fig Cafe. Great food, great service, great prices, and you have to love the free corkage policy.

But what I what I want to know is what was Michael Bauer talking about here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=26&entry_id=6905

It was great to read all of this info about the wonderful treats that await me in Glen Ellen as I will be visiting in early September. My husband loves cheese, so I'm sure he'll be ecstatic about cheesemongering. I'm looking forward to my trip even more...thanks!

I think Bauer might be talking about La Estancia, a new Argentinian restaurant in glen ellen. I only think that due to the mention of paella. However, I've been there twice and liked the place twice. The service was a bit off the first time, but it had been open only a couple days. But the short ribs were unbelievable!

Raymond's cheese shop: Amazing!

What did your guests get between the bread salad and the cheeses? Give us some idea about your stove-piloting prowess.

Fred:

Bacon-wrapped king crab grilled over a fire along with grilled marinated Walla Walla onions. And we finished with my wife's fabuslous Pot de creme.

Wines were all over the board: Argentine Malbec, Chilean blend, Monterey Pinot, 1996 Laurel Glen Cab, Spanish Jumilla, Old Madiera and a Tokay from from Australia.

sounds fabulous. must have been a great night.

One cannot enjoy the pleasures of a perfect cheese and spectacular wine without serving it on an equally high end product. How about a solid hardwood end grain buther block cutting board at factory direct pricing?

Enjoy.
