I'd like to nominate your own blog, Tom along with Vinography

Fermentation is ineligible to be nominated. (but thanks).

Gotta give it to Dr. Vino's wine blog.

(Sorry to hear we're barred from voting for you, Tom.)

Along with the first two, I'd add Jamie Goode, http://www.wineanorak.com/blog

Lenn Devours
Wine For Newbies

I hereby nominate:

Vinography
LENNDEVOURS
Good Grape Wine Co.

In vino veritas

Vinography:
http://vinography.com/

and Fermentation:
(you should be eligible, you know...)
http://www.fermentation.typepad.com/

Vinography
Dr. Vino
Basic Juice

Thanks, Tom!

I came here this morning to nominate several blogs, but nearly all of my picks have been covered by others.

I'd like to slip in a humble suggestion for next year for a "Best New Wine Blog" - as an encouragement for up and coming blogs that may not have been around long enough to meet the 52 post criteria, but have still "made a splash". For instance, I would nominate this blog in the Single Subject category:

http://columbiawineblog.blogspot.com/index.html

But only 46 posts in 2006 since he started in September.

Thanks Tom!

Here are my picks:

Vinography
Zinquisition
Dr. Vino
Jamie Goode
Good Grape
Lenndevours

Hey El Jefe, whats up with Calaveras County banning the street side sale of kittens? That's how my wife and I got our pussy. For shame!

I nominate Veritas in Vino.
www.alicefeiring.com

It's like reading a novel in installments and learning a ton about wine at the same time. You can't help but become engaged with the protagonist (Alice Feiring) as she travels the world--reflecting on trends that drive wine production (for better and worse), offering travelogues and vignettes to wine-producing regions and enticing you to travel to the same places, all the while adding choice tidbits from her personal life.

Unlike other wine blogs, this site provides wine recommendations (of course) but also a range of information about everything wine--how wines are produced, why production strategy (and manipulation) matters, how to enjoy wine solo or with food, who is making wine, and where to find the passion and soul of the industry.

Vinography is a favorite.

I know we can't nominate Fermentation, but it's a good one.

Robin Garr's Thirty Second Wine Advisor is top drawer. Always interesting. Always entertaining.

I really liked The Wine Amateur, whose focus was mostly on Oz Wines, but I think he quit writing it last fall.

The Wine Commonsewer again is the best.

I'll second that motion: The Wine Commonsewer. TWC delivers a delightful mixture of reverence and humor in a fruit forward blog with a stable balance of oak, tannins, and astringency. The finish is clean with notes of vanilla and chocolate.

I daily read The Wine Commonsewer with an anticipation the rivals that for a new vintage of Pinot Noir.

I guess I should have included the links to my nominations

Robin Garr's Thirty Second Wine Advisor:

Vinography:

Wine Amateur

I am Argentine and also I want to take part!!!!

Really Josh - I don't think this is the appropriate forum to discuss where you and your wife get pussy...

I'd go with Jamie Goode - by far and away the best thing this side of the Atlantic - puts me to shame by some distance!

As for Fermentation being ineligable - Tom have you thought about moving the hosting of the awards to other blogs from year to year so that you are eligible some years - as I'm unlikely to be nominated anyway - small blog - small readership - inconsistant posting and generally being amateur I'd be willing to host it so that you are eligable?

I would like to nominate:

http://www.NotavivaVineyards.com/weblog/

Great in-depth coverage and graphics on the founding of a Virginia farm winery.

El jefe going right for the gutter, as usual. I suppose one can only expect ad hominem attacks when confronted with the indefensible banning of street side kitten sales. :P

too bad we can't nominate fermentations but here are Inertia's recommendations:

Good Grape
Pinot Blogger
Winery Website Report
Vinography
Wine Cast

Inertia - Powering the Wine Revolution

Cork Jester

What a brilliant and aggressive move on your part Tom. I can't ever recall a PR/advertising outfit, promoting and getting paid to advise cliets on using a medium of communication, creating an award category for that medium. But the blogosphere is different, and anyway no publication or association was stepping up to the plate (indeed there was much grousing that the WS doesn't take bloggers seriously).

I hope you will create a category for best advocacy blogging down the road, naming the category after Jerry Mead and bestowing the Jerry Mead Award. No one did more for the cause of direct shipping, leading to the Coalition for Free Trade (started by John Hinman when I was at Family Winemakers), that "Curmie". An amazing guy who is largely forgotten or unknown by all the youngsters around here.

Best wishes for an exciting competition.

I'd like to nominate www.winecommonsewer.com

Everything I know about wine I learned there.

Tom - I apologize for my friend Josh's pussy fixation (I had no idea it was such a burning issue.) I've posted my response over on El Bloggo... thanks! - j

Tom:

I've thought a lot about Jerry Mead lately. He was relentless and always righteous. Interestingly, there is very little "advocacy blogging" out there when it comes to wine. There are blogs that advocate ways of doing business, but nothing like Jerry did. God, can you imagine Jerry Mead with a blog?

As for the "pr move", I thought a good deal about this issue prior to starting these awards. I knew I had to assuure that I was not a judge and I've been able to take myself out of it by finding judges to determine the finalists and by letting the public do the final voting.

I hope these awards gain attention outside the blogosphere. There are a lot over very compelling new voices writing in this medium that are well worth reading

Cheers,
tom...

Amusing Musings From the Wine Road, www.SidewaysWineClub.com.typebad.com/blog

Winehiker of course! :) I love his blog and read it every day (well, almost).

30 second wine advisor - the best!

Jennifer doesn't seek to show off her considerable knowledge of wine or turn her devotees into wine snobs. On the contrary, she uses extraordinary wit to demystify wine to the masses, like me. Wonderful site.

Wine Waves
Vinography

I would like to nominate La Gramiere (US couple very courageous based in the Cote de Rhone) www.lagramiere.com

winecast.net
lagramiere.com
spittoon.biz

What a noble idea.
I visit many wine blogs on a daily basis and the blog that has consistently given me great wine recommendations is Blue State Carpetbagger's Red State Wine Blog. http://bighousewine.blogspot.com What a great title! The writer has got an amazing palate with a penchant for under $10.

My fave:

Sideways Wineclub Blog

Vinography. Alder brings it with great experience, respect in the industry and a certain "normal" or approachable tone.

The finest blog I've seen: wineterroirs.com
A dark horse, but the hands down winner.

Amusing Musings From the Wine Road

I'd like to nominate the Sideways Wine Club http://www.sidewayswineclub.typepad.com/blog/

Sideways Wine Club Blog
Amusing Musings From the Wine Road.

I think "Amusing Musings From the Wine Road" is witty and poignant. URL is www.SidewaysWineClub.typepad.com/blog

Sideways definitely deserves a nomination:

http://www.sidewayswineclub.typepad.com/blog/

Amusing Musings From the Wine Road, www.SidewaysWineClub.com.typebad.com/blog

Turophile is a great food and wine blog that isn't boring to read, because she posts about her life and how wine fits into it.

Amusing Musings From the Wine Road - Sideways should really be considered

Amusing Musings from the Wine Road! A must read at SidewaysWineClub.com

My nomination goes to the best of the best: Sideways Wine Club

Got to go with WLTV hosted by Gary Vaynerchuck. It is wine ed for the masses!

www.SidewaysWineClub.Typepad.com/blog

Dave is simply the best. Love his writing. He knows his stuff and stays current. instead of focusing on what everyone can find in the big media, he focuses on gems that go unnoticed. after all, that's what is Blog is all about.

Whenever I need some blog to go with my pinot, reach for Amusing Musings from the Wine Road, http://www.sidewayswineclub.typepad.com/blog/

The grapenuts: blog.thegrapenuts.net

Lenndevours Best Wine Blog

I nominate Wine Library TV with Gary Vaynerchuk. Best video blog of any kind on the net!

Wine Library TV - tv.winelibrary.com

I would like to nominate my sister's blog, www.courtneycochran.com for best "overall" blog. In particular, I find that her blogging appeals to a demographic that has yet to really be tapped in this area, the young developing professional palate, in particular, that of women. Her blogs are informative, fun, and humorous, which I find makes them easier to digest for the ADD generation. I wish that the blog category could best "best up and coming *genre specific* wine blog," but I'll settle for best graphics or something. Please check it out!!

I enjoy reading La Gramiere's blog. As someone who is interested in learning more about the winery culture and watching their progress, it's enjoyable to read, too..

I'd like to nominate the bomb, Gary Vaynerchuk's Wine Library T.V.

Wine Library TV of course

Wine Library TV...Changing the wine world!

Best of everything; blog, webcast

WLTV and host Gary Vaynerchuk..the BEST!!

tv.winelibrary.com with host Gary Vaynerchuk

I nominate WineLibrary TV.

The Red Wine Haiku Review is the BEST!!

What a lovely site with some great photos - wineterroirs.com

I second Red Wine Haiku, which I find incredibly entertaining. But I also have to put in a plug for my own small but friendly blog - De Vine Inspiration located at www.grapegal.com

WineLibrary TV is the best blog for the common working man wine drinker!

Wine Library TV hosted by Gary Vaynerchuk. See it once and you can't stop going back.

I nominate Cellar Tracker & Wine Library TV.

Wine Library TV is hands down the most impactful, memorable and friendly wine blog in the world. Gary V is a master taster and presenter. I have learned a lot from him. He has the charisma of a best friend.

I nominate Gary Vanderchuk's tv.winelibrary.com.

Opps... sorry for the incorrect spelling! It's Gary Vaynerchuk's Wine Library TV (tv.winelibrary.com)

Gary Vaynerchuk - Wine Library TV

Definitively

Lenn Devours
Wine For Newbies

A great pod.

Gary Vaynerchuk - Wine Library TV / WLTV

I've seen them all (other nominees so far) and no one comes close to the value-added insights, information, consistency in a delivering a high-value new program 5 DAYS A WEEK...and with a bit of humor that makes it clearly elevates it above the rest.

I nominate Wine Library TV (WLTV) and host Gary Vaynerchuk. Very informative and amusing at the same time!
