I've been at serious risk for quite some time of being accused with good reason of being an Alice Feiring stalker But I'll risk the additional chance of solidifying that perception in the minds of many by pointing you all toward something that I'd never seen before today. It's a beautiful and revealing piece Ms. Feiring wrote in 2007 for the New York Times to which she so very subtly links in a recent blog post of hers at Veritas in Vino that addresses ethics and blogging.
"How My Plumber Turned Water into Wine" made me smile...broadly. You will too.
The essay is also a perfect example of what's missing from the wine writing genre: A focus on REAL life, versus Lifestyle.
Tom, sorry but I can only encourage your crush on Alice.
My plumber likes to talk wine with me as well and I have given him the occasional bottle. But not as meaningfully and poetically as Alice.

Wow, what an elegantly writing style. She's very familiar, it felt like I was sitting in a cozy cafe listening to her story over a beverage of my choice (which, at this time of year, is mint hot chocolate). I don't want to gush over any details in here at risk of ruining it for anyone else who ventures to give it a read, but I will say this:
There's something charming to be said, almost magical, for the way some strangers give us more confidence, and answers to questions, than we know to find in family, friends, or ourselves.
