Rock Solid Wine Blogging

Winerocks WINE ROCKS is a blog written by a wine industry insider. It has been around now since July of 2008.

I like it a lot.

Wine Rocks is not pretty to look at. It doesn't have a blogroll and there is no indication anywhere of who is writing beyond this notation: "I work in the wine industry and have been known to have an opinion or two."

It's a shame the writer hasn't revealed their identity. I'm sure there is a good reason for this, but it is disappointing nonetheless. Still, Wine Rocks is very much worth a regular read.

The content is varied, but all seems to approach its commentary from a Birdseye view of the industry and how various facets of the wine industry are evolving. You'll find some off hand wine reviews, but for the most part Wine Rocks thrives on irony, analysis and excellent insights. The blog also strolls into the realm of baseball commentary, an occasional foray that I completely endorse.

Still, I'm disappointed there is no identity. I'd be willing to bet the author lives in Napa Valley. I don't think he is a winemaker. I think he is a marketer. Maybe a writer. In the end, this concern matters only a little and detracts from Wine Rocks very little. It is an outstanding wine blog that provides provocative reading that has made its way onto my RSS feed and my blogroll.

I've got more of a problem than you, Tom, with anonymous blogs, but i won't bore you with those feelings.

i wouldn't read an anonymous blog. either put a name on it or shut up.

FYI, I posted in response to the blogger's chocolate and wine opinion. I posted as anonymous, something I have never done before, but this blogger won't identify so I wanted to see what would happen.

Go see what happened.

Tom, why should anyone take an unidentified blogger seriously?

Thomas:

Because He's good.

Tom,

How do you know it's a he? And since this person takes no responsibility for the posts, how do you even know that they are written by the person who operates the blog?

To me, it is essential that anyone wishing to write, especially opinions, must be truthful, and that starts with a name. I don't care a with how good the writing is, opinions must be signed by someone.

And what can be assumed about an anonymous blogger who cuts off an anonymous poster or forces the poster to reveal identity?

Not much.

I thought this was W. Blake Gray's blog.
